I describe myself as a materialist, a secular humanist and an strong atheist.  I despise the theology of Christianity (not Christians) because it teaches that humans are worthless without the "saving grace" of a God.  Christianity expects modern man to accept that human sacrifice and the blood of Jesus somehow washes away mortal sins or crimes. Thankfully, 90% of Christians don't really understand their religion they just pay lip service to something that they were taught as children.

I do find Christian "thinkers" and "scholars" the vilest form of life on the planet, and this includes some regulars who spew their "pretzel" logic into Yahoo chat.  These intellectual parasites can quote a myriad of famous Christian theologians and philosophers to support their fetish Bible.

Instead of retreating into the shadows and admitting that their beliefs are just a matter of faith they demand to be permitted a place at the "secular table" pretending to use logic or the scientific method, for which some really believe they are sincere.  The former I only despise; the latter I pity.

A Ghost in the Machine The existence of the soul: An enduring theistic dogma is that each of us is inhabited by an immaterial soul that confers on us our consciousness and survives the death of our bodies. This essay powerfully refutes that notion, drawing on the evidence of science to establish that our minds arise from nowhere but our physical brains.

WHY JESUS ISN'T COMING AGAIN  The Bible tells us that Jesus Christ spoke to His disciples 2000 years ago, telling them that he would return, that he was "coming again". His promise remains one of the most central themes in the myriad of Christian belief systems. Except for a very small minority, Christians still believe he is coming again, the Parousia, the rapture. Is His promise still valid? Has He yet to return? Or did He make the promise only to break it in the lifetime of those to whom He spoke?

Amazon.com ....Dennett argues against the myth of the Cartesian theater--the idea that consciousness can be precisely located in space or in time. To replace the Cartesian theater, he introduces his own multiple drafts model of consciousness, in which the mind is a bubbling congeries of unsupervised parallel processing. Finally, Dennett tackles the conventional philosophical questions about consciousness, taking issue not only with the traditional answers but also with the traditional methodology by which they were reached.Consciousness Explained
